Shop Cop......

or the terror that strikes when the Health inspector shows up. (They don't phone ahead, BTW!)

Bro and I had a productive morning. He set to work making Key Lime Cheesecakes (which are to die for as they almost melt in your mouth!) and I set to work making 28 Brown Bag lunches. Todays menu consisted of Baked Potatoes with a choice of toppings: Cheese, Butter, Sour Cream and/or Chives, Broccoli w/without cheese, Apple Slices and Cupcakes for dessert. Basically, no prep other than to actually bake the potatoes, blanch the broccoli and heat up the cheese. A realitively easy morning. No drama, no big deal.

UNTIL.......!

We had lunch all packed up to go and waiting in the front room. Bro went out to bring his van around so we can load up and head out. Nothing unusual so far. As I am waiting, the phone rings and the next thing I know Rog begins to holler out orders "Shopgirl, come help me put the Ziti in the freezers, Dad go empty the water out of all the sinks". Now, at this point, I think Rog has lost his mind as the Ziti was prepped and waiting to be baked when we got back after lunch, and the sinks had just been filled in order to facilitate washing of the number of dishes we had managed to dirty up already this morning. I get back to the back carrying Ziti pans when Rog says "The Health Inspector is on his way in!" Now, in the "Food World" nothing is more terrifying as the surprise inspections to make sure that your shop is up to code and to give you that special little letter that you must display in your window for all to see.

As we are leaving the shop with lunch, the Inspector walks up. Bro and Inspector exchange a few friendly words and he and I get in the van and head up to the school. Now, I am thinking, how the hell did Rog know that the Inspector was coming if they don't give you a warning? Bro explains as we head up to serve lunch. As he was getting in his van he sees a familiar car and says "hey, thats the Health Inspector." Then he says, "OH CRAP, he's turning into OUR parking area!". At that point, BRO became the early warning system and quicky phoned Rog who set in motion the above mentioned orders.

Bro spent a fretful hour at the school while waiting for word on the Health Inspectors verdict. Thank goodness they only come once a year. I do not think that any of us in the shop needs that type of stress on a daily basis.

WE GOT OUR "A"!

Due to the stress of the morning, we really didn't get too much accomplished once we got back to the shop other than to have lunch, clean up lunch both from school and our own and then I did get the cookies baked for tomorrow's lunch. 126 sugar cookies with fall leaves sprinkles. I am looking forward to next week's cookies, when I will begin to use the Halloween sprinkles that are in abundance at the shop. FUN!

Scoop ya soon!
