Unfaithful Ovens....
or what to do when the pilot light goes out.
Yeah,yeah, I hear you. "Hey Shopgirl, you have to relight the pilot light." Under normal circumstances, with a cooperative oven, that might indeed be the answer. However, this is not a normal oven. This is an oven out to get us. This is an oven that for some bizarre reason seems to think its primary job is to teach us humility and patience. The oven wins small battles, but we are going to win the war!
The oven chooses the most inopportune times to refuse to do its job. This morning, we had no less than 4 pans of 24 lemon cupcakes each, 3 hotel pans full of rice pilaf and 2 full sheet pans of chicken that had to be baked in two ovens and ready go to by 1030.
Bro does not like to hear "hey, this FREAKING oven isn't hot!". Cursing will ensue when that phrase is uttered. You can beg the oven, you can curse at it but that damn oven just does not care. Bro proceeds to lie on the floor in the kitchen, attempting to have a "discussion" with the malcontent we call an oven and trying to relight it so that we can work with the two ovens we have rather than try to limp with just one. Shopgirl knows that it is time to regroup and deal with the prep items that do not depend upon the oven because there is nothing we need less at this point than to have a second blonde attempting to relight a pilot light.
We would like to think that we have pinpointed the pilot light malfunction in this insurgent oven, however, it just makes NO sense as the damn thing works fine for weeks under the same conditions. It has got to be possessed. Maybe we need a good exorcist to deal with the problem, or another visit from the "oven man". Who knows which will actually take care of the problem. Certainly not Shopgirl!
Today's Menu: Rice Pilaf and Chicken with Teriyaki Sauce, Broccoli, Orange Slices and Lemon cupcakes with Frosting. Scoop count = 90 X 4.
