Well, in music, as in life, it is all that has gone before the silence of the rest that makes it what it is. If it is simply a cacaphony of sound and discord, it is only a respite from the noise. Whereas, if instead, it is the harmonious building of phrases, and the judicious use of dissonance, it leads the quiet of rest to be suspensful and passionate - else we are simply glad the noise has ended.

I think about the Dr Suess story about the world that exist on a grain of dust and that need to shout out "We are here". Powerful story.
