The Battery King

You need a battery. You have searched the stores and just can not find this little obscure button cell. So where do you turn? To Radio Shack, of course. Radio Shack will have it. You have absolutely NO doubts. Are you with me thus far? Good.

See the little battery below? I need one of these. I have searched the stores only to come up empty handed, save the dead battery. I have an absolute trust that Radio Shack will be my hero. No Doubt.

I took that little battery into Radio Shack yesterday. I was greeted with the usual, "how can I help you?" To which I responded by handing the Radio Shack Guy my battery and saying " I need one of these, please." He assures me it is no problem and proceeds to look at the display of batteries. He went right to where he thought it would be. Now, it is never good when he starts pawing around in the display, then stands up and moves towards the counter saying "I don't seem to have it, let me go cross-reference it to find the proper one."

I wander about with the boy while he does his research. He is taking much longer than it should to cross-ref a battery but I am being patient. He finally comes over to me, shaking his head. I think to myself, "Radio Shack Guy shaking his head can't be good news." I was correct. He tells me that not only do they not have it in stock, it doesn't even come up in a cross-reference check so there is no way he can even order me a replacement. He proceeds to inform me that IF they had it in the cross-reference book that they could order it for me. Why is he telling me this? Is it somehow supposed to make me feel better? *rolling eyes*

I am in SHOCK! I thank him for his time and leave the store. I am not sure how I managed to make my way to my car and unlock the doors to get inside to leave. That, my friends, is how extensive the shock was to my battery procurement system.

I am so sorry to tell you all that Radio Shack is NO LONGER the King of Batteries. Its a horrible discovery and a sad, sad day.

I have lost all faith in Radio Shack.

hmm looks like a job for research girl. They call Radio Shack "The Source" up here... they changed name a few months ago. Wonder if this has something to do with lack of specialty batteries?
Or is this for some old device that has been superceded by something new & improved??
    just asking...

Yeah, well. I don't think that "The Source" has my battery either.

Dunno what is up with that. I would understand if it WAS an older device, but its not. Less than a few months old actually, although that doesn't attest to how long it hung out in the store prior to purchase. Still, it can't be THAT old.

Dead to me, I tell ya!

Yeah, what's up with that? RS always had every battery or phonograph needle you needed - you could depend on them!

I will have to find a new place for my electronics now.
